I moved to the Pyrénées Orientales in 2001, following the common dream of buying a house in France to renovate, and of living in the land of wine and cheese.....and, as all the “Travel Journals” endlessly expose, there proceeded a stream of Anglo-French misunderstandings, which tested our determination to the limits. Of course, the two cultures are different and many of the mistakes were of our own making. I seriously felt with more groundwork and open-mindedness the whole procedure could have been easily accomplished.

These earth shattering thoughts led me to set up “Connect66” - a rather amateur attempt to sell French houses to the British on the Internet. But, most importantly, I started to learn.....about the vagaries of a rapidly changing property market; the differences between the French and British system, which cause most concern; the common pitfalls; the dream versus the reality and, hopefully, the criteria for how to be a respected and efficient estate agent.....

Three years later I felt capable of doing the job properly and started the business - www.look-south.com - no hard-selling, no garish web site, no empty promises, just a personal, professional approach - tailor-made, not “off the shelf”.

French law stipulates that English estate agents, if self-employed, need to be contracted to a French Estate Agent - hence, I became affiliated to SARL Agence Globe Immo, an agency which has several contracted agents throughout France.

The site advertises a small, but select portfolio of houses. I deal primarily with those properties in the Pyrenees Orientales, while other agents from Agence Globe Immo look after those in different departments. We all have the same work philosophy, and will provide a comprehensive and individual service from initial inquiry through to moving in.

The web site now offers property in the Languedoc-Roussillon and in the Midi-Pyrénées and will continue to expand, but only within those areas.
